Fitial has final say on CUC’s top post

Outgoing CUC Executive Director Antonio Muna said they are now reviewing the applications.

The job vacancy announcement for the executive director was opened on July 2 and was closed on Aug. 2.

There are 27 applicants, including Assistant Executive Director Abe Utu Malae, said Muna, whose resignation will take effect as soon as the governor names his successor.

Muna, an accountant, has no intention of reconsidering his resignation.

“I served my role and my job is to bring stability. My position here was never meant to be permanent,” he said.

Muna was the governor’s financial adviser when he was appointed as CUC’s top executive in May 2008.

Review

Muna said they are now evaluating if the applicants comply with the qualifications pursuant to the federal stipulated orders.

After the review, he said they will submit the applications to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The EPA will then inform CUC who among the applicants are qualified based on the requirement of the stipulated orders.

The list will be submitted to the governor who will then make the final selection

The governor, Muna said, will choose from the pool of candidates whom the EPA considers as qualified.

After getting a new executive director, Muna said CUC will immediately proceed to selecting a deputy executive director.

The JVA for the deputy director was opened on Jan. 6 and closed on July 16 with more than 20 applicants.

By the end of this year or early next year, Muna said CUC will have a new executive director and a new deputy executive director.

The executive director will get a two-year contract with a salary ranging from $120,000 to $150,000 annually.

The deputy executive director’s salary ranges from $100,000 to $120,000 per year.
