Ronnie Somera Cruz was still in his wet suit when he was rushed to the Commonwealth Health Center, Variety was told.
A CHC nurse called the Philippine Consulate General on Saipan to report that Cruz died at about 3:30 a.m.
Cruz went fishing with his companions after midnight Wednesday, the consulate was told.
Cruz’s employer was Lino Tenorio who had yet to return this reporter’s calls.
Cruz had been on island for the past 20 years.
He was never a member of the Philippine Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, which would have provided his family with some monetary benefits.
Welfare Officer Rey Tayag said their office is coordinating with Cruz’s family in Ilocos Sur province, northern Philippines.
