The new 10khz radio transmitter will replace the outdated AM transmitter, which has burned down since January of last year. Funding for the project was recently appropriated by the Yap State Legislature under YSL 7-68.
In his request, Youth and Civic Affairs Director Larry Raigetal said “immediate purchase of the replacement transmitter is essential to reestablish the required broadcast communication with the neighboring islands on storm warnings, weather conditions, local news and events.”
He said plans to purchase the replacement transmitter were executed last year but no funding was secured until recently.
