Coffee trail run set for Oct. 2

Participants will be running a 30 kilometer trail that stretches from Micro Beach to Mt. Tapochao.

The trail will “offer great scenic views as well as a challenging terrain for runners alike.” Runners will be passing wild coffee plantations planted during the Japanese-colonial era and the Marianas Coffee Company’s coffee groves.

The run is usually staged in January, but will now be held in a latter part of the year.

“We’re looking forward to another great staging of the Marianas Coffee Trail Run,” said MVA Community Programs Manager Martin Duenas.  “With this October run, the coffee trees will also be in full bloom, which will make the course even more attractive than it already is.  Also, the later date will allow us to attract more visitors to the island during a relatively low-demand period.”

Runners are encouraged to submit their applications with the event’s $30 entry fee before October 1. An additional $10 will be charged for late entries.

Applications may be picked up at the Marianas Visitors Authority office in San Jose.

Participants will receive a t-shirt, certificate of participation, and admission to the Marianas Coffee Awards Banquet at the Micro Beach Pavilion, which will start at 11:30 am.

A 10k fun walk will also be held in addition to the 30k trail run. Both events will start from the same point.

Awards will be given to those finish in first, second, and third place. Medals will also be given to winners from each age division. The age divisions include: 18-years-and-below, 19-29 years, 30-39 years, 40-49 years, and 50 years and up.

The 4th Annual Marianas Coffee Trail Run is currently sponsored by the Marianas Coffee Company, Marianas Visitors Authority, Team PDI, and KFC Triathlon Japan.
