Coach Elias Rangamar said more than 20 athletes so far, have reached the qualifying performance in different athletic events.
Within the two more months left to the Micro Games, the NMI athletes, Rangamar said still have a couple of rounds to set new previous best and get ready for the regional event.
There were 18 NMI athletes who have secured passes to the Micro Games during the previous qualifiers that started a couple of months ago, Rangamar said.
During last Friday’s national athletics championship at the Oleai Sports Complex track and field in Susupe five more athletes made it.
“We see indications that our athletes’ level of performance continue go up,” Rangamar said as he expressed confidence about the emerging national team.
Tyrone Omar ran 11.03 seconds in the men’s 100-meter dash followed by DJ Ngirchongor and Ryan Ichihara who clocked at 11.50 and 11.52 respectively.
Yvonne Bennett had a solo lead in the women’s 100-meter as she finished it in 13.17 seconds setting a wide distance ahead of Jacque Wonenberg who had it in 13.31 seconds.
In the 400-meter run, Jess Iguel had 53.84 seconds followed by Douglas Dillay and Beo Ngichorngor ran 55.01 and 55.96 seconds respectively.
Reylynn Sapong also gave it a try in the 400-meter which she finished in 1:07.52 minute.
In the 1,500-meter run, Douglas Dillay dominated four other runners clocking at 4:48.89 minutes followed by Jack Kabriel who had in 4:51.09 minutes and Danny Bai who finished it in 5:05 minutes.
From 5.77 meters in the first try, Ryan Ichihara improved his PB to 5.83 meters in the long jump. Trevor Ogumoro leaped 5:75 meters far and Douglas Dillay had 5.63 meters.
In women’s, Jacque Wonenberg had 4.64 meters.
This coming weekend, Rangamar said NMI’s young athletes who want to prove themselves for the Micro Games still have the 800-meter, 5,000-meter 110-H, triple jump, discus throw, shot put and javelin.
