Band conductor William DeWitt said the free concert will include nearly two hours of musical entertainment.
“The members of the award-winning Manta Band wish to express their profound thanks to the entire community for their support during the past year with this musical tribute,” DeWitt said.
The group, he added, is very thankful for the support from businesses, government entities, the Public School System, and hundreds of other individuals and organizations that helped raise funds so that the band could compete in the New York International Music Festival last month.
The band was awarded a silver award.
DeWitt said their repertoire on Wednesday includes the musical numbers they performed at the Carnegie Hall.
Japanese maestro Atsushi Ozawa will be guest-conducting the band for the upcoming special concert.
DeWitt said Ozawa is a longtime friend and mentor of SSHS students who has frequently volunteered his time and talent to elevate the musical potential of the young musicians.
‘He even wrote about the students in a widely read professional band conductors’ publication known as the Band Journal,” DeWitt said.
Ozawa is being sponsored and hosted by the Palms Resort on Saipan.
