Businesses helping man‘amko recognized

Introduced by Rodriguez, along with Sens. Adolpho Palacios Sr. and Frank Blas Jr., Resolution No. 154-31 recognizes the contributions made to Guam by senior citizens, in addition to the responsibility to care for them. It also calls on all island businesses to introduce programs which would help make the lives of Guam’s man‘amko  a little easier, especially in times when many government programs are being scaled back due to budgetary problems. The resolution also expresses appreciation for firms already doing so.

At Friday’s event, Island Fresh Store, U.S. Explore and Study Inc., Rexall Drugs, Pay-Less Supermarkets Inc., Feathers ‘N Fins, Ross, Hotel Nikko Guam, Lam Lam Tours and SM Store were recognized for their programs, which include special discounts for seniors, free trolley services, and designated parking spots.

In his remarks, Sen. Rodriguez summed up the spirit of the occasion in saying, “I am hoping that most, if not all, businesses come up with a special service that can be extended to our man‘amko. After all, our island’s senior citizens are the jewel of our community – they are the pioneers of who we are today, so we must do all we can to express our sincerest appreciation to them.”
