Siblings arrested in Dandan brawl

Superior Court Judge Joseph N. Camacho allowed Yonnie Matagolai Dejillas, 28, and his brother Ernie, 24, to each post $500 as 10 percent of the bail order.

The Dejillas’ brothers were being held on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, and disturbing the peace.

Assistant Attorney General Nicole Driscoll represented the government while the court had yet to appoint counsels for the Dejillas brothers.

The Dejillas are sons of Pantaleon P. Dejillas, 70, who was the driver of the vehicle that hit a pedestrian — the sister of Jerome Kaipat Narita — on Flame Tree Road in Dandan.

Family members of the victim assaulted the elder Dejillas while the brothers defended their father against Kaipat and his father, Juan Laniyo Kaipat Jr.

Based on interviews, Detective Raymond B. Borja said the Dejillas brothers who were in a blue sedan arrived “at a high rate of speed.”

Ernie Dejillas came out of the passenger side, holding a machete, and swung it. He shouted at the individuals who were beating up his father.

Jerome Norita was chased by Ernie Dejillas who was then chased by Wilfred Pangelinan Kaipat.

Ernie Dejillas fell to the ground after Jerome Kaipat punched him.

Yonnie Dejillas, for his part, got into the car and tried to run over Juan Norita.

Ann Marie Tebit Kaipat, the wife of Wilfred Kaipat, told police had she not moved out of the way, she would have been hit by the car.

The Dejillas brothers later drove back, and apologized as they didn’t know that the car driven by their father hit a pedestrian, police said.
