Rocball season ends 7th round

In second place with a 5-2 record is Give-a-Hoot while Alpha Q, Geeks, and Just-Do-It sit in third place with 4-3 apiece. Team G-Sparks ranks fifth at a 1-6 record and IDK is winless with 0-7.

24 games remain before the first four teams are eliminated. The eight remaining teams will enter a 56-game, round robin season. At the end of this round, four groups will advance to the semifinals.

In the spot light for individual and team achievements after the seventh round is Geeks’ Austin Piteg with nine two-point serves in one game.

Jonathan Inacio — also with the Geeks — is the leader in ‘heavy hitter’ with 14 aces, five xunks, one jam, and one goal for 43 points. Inacio needs only a ‘kee’ (a backcourt scoring technique) to become the next Rocball master player.

The best team at scoring two-point serves is team Aim Low, who scored 36 two-point serves in seven games. Aim Low scored 22 kees and is the number one threat for scoring three-point goals. Lay Low posted seven goals or an average of one goal per game.

In round seven there were five teams that ‘juiced-out’ (dominatingly outscored) their opponents in three sets: Roc It (35-12 vs. Alpha Q), Aim Low (40-17 vs. G-Sparks), Geeks (32-5 vs. IDK), Teachers (34-9 vs. Dream Team), and Give-a-Hoot (37-16 vs. Balls of Fury).

In round seven’s hardest game played, Just-Do-It was forced into overtime by Lay Low before they could claim their fourth win. Just-do-It won the first and second sets, 11-3 and 15-13, respectively. Lay Low however, claimed the third set, 17-8. At the end of three sets of regulation play neither team played well enough to ‘juice’ the other team.

Just-Do-It was ahead of Lay Low, 34-33.

In Rocball, a team cannot win a game in a losing set. Games are scheduled for a specific number of sets to be completed. Because Just-Do-It lost the last set despite winning the most sets and game points, they lacked the skill, character, and determination to juice-out their opponents.

To avoid overtime sets a Rocball team must outscore their opponents in game points and win the third set — it’s the ‘kill factor’ of the sport.
