Senate confirms new Rota, Tinian CDA nominees

By a vote of 8 to 0, the Senate confirmed Tom Glenn Quitugua to represent Rota and former Rep. Edwin P. Aldan to represent Tinian on the CDA board.

None of the appointees were present but CDA Executive Director Manny Sablan and other officials were in the gallery to express their support for Quitugua and Aldan.

Sablan said he was very pleased that the Senate confirmed  Quitugua and Aldan. He said he is looking forward to working with the two new board members.

Quitugua is a former CDA board member.

Oscar C. Camacho, CDA’s development corporation division manager, said they are happy that they now have a seven-member board.

He and Sablan said they can now address a lot of pressing issues facing CDA and the commonwealth.

Sen. Frank Q. Cruz, R-Tinian and chairman of the Senate Committee on Executive Appointments and Government Investigation, said the CNMI encountered a problem when the CDA wanted to help resolve the Commonwealth Health Center’s funding problem but the board did not have a quorum because one of the  members was off-island.

He said his committee does not want such things to happen again.
