Fiji’s visitor arrivals up 5.6%

According to the bureau, most of the visitors came from Australia recording 31,073 (3.7 percent) followed by New Zealand with 11,545 visitors (9.4 percent); 6,111 visitors came from the U.S. (8 percent) and 2,247 from Continental Europe (2 percent).

“People arriving for holiday purposes contributed 75.7 percent of the total visitor arrivals and 9 percent came to visit their friends and relatives, while 15.3 percent visited Fiji for other reasons,” the bureau said in the statistical summary.

The report said cruise ship passengers for June this year showed a decrease of 78.6 percent from 8,538 in 2010 to 1831 this year.

“Fiji citizens migrating were 265 as compared to 326 in June 2010,” the report said.

“Resident arrivals with Fiji passports residing overseas were 3,432 compared to 1,208 in June.

“However, increase for June 2011 when compared to 2010 were recorded for visitors from China, Canada and the United Kingdom,” the report said.

The bureau also said that decreases in June this year were recorded for visitors from Japan, Korea and the Pacific Islands.
