The Catholic practice of dedicating the month of October to the Holy Rosary began with Pope Leo XIII who strongly promoted the increased devotion to the Blessed Mother by encouraging the constant use of the rosary. The pope had written a total of 11 encyclicals on the rosary between 1883 to 1898.
