Barvo wins Hard Rock Café’s Rock the Junk Fashion Show

“I’m very happy for winning. I didn’t expect it but I would like to thank my teachers and parents and everybody else who helped me from the start,” Barvo told the crowd.

Christian Bravo from Saipan Kids Legacy was named Rock Prince, while Juliet Inocencio and Michaela Cunanan, both of Uncle Ben’s Dream Academy Stars, were named Rock Princesses. The winner of Rock the Junk’s Best in Runway Award was nine-year-old Carl James Marquez.

The judges picked  the top 10 from 28 contestants from all three categories — kids 6 years old and below, 7-11years old and 18 years old and below — after their first runway walk and the top winners were chosen from the top 10.

Fashion designer and event coordinator James Sison said he was overwhelmed by the support from the community.

“This is my first time to host a fashion show and I’m very grateful to everybody who participated and who showed up. Hopefully, we will come up with more events like this to increase awareness about the environment,” Sison said.

Judges for the fashion show were Charlene Crisostomo, Semona Igama, Hazel Tudela, Ina Jucutan and Alex from iFashion Salon.

Participants of the Rock the Junk Fashion Show in collaboration with Teen Talk, Hard Rock Café Saipan and the Mariana Islands Nature Alliance joined a beach cleanup activity last Sept. 16 along with the rest of the nation for the international coastal cleanup day.

The contestants were required to purchase t-shirts from Hard Rock Café and were given complete freedom on how they would design their clothes as long as the Hard Rock Café design remained visible, according to Hard Rock Café Saipan operations manager Rey Perez.

Sponsors for the event were Canon Photoshop, Konflict, Rainbow Colors, IT&E, Joeten Susupe, iFashion Salon, Serenity Salon and Spa, Sunset Cruise, Shawarma Boy and National Car Rental & Alamo.
