First section of Laolao Bay road project completed

The ceremony marks the completion of the first section of the road  from the entrance to the bottom of the hill and will be held along the road as you enter Laolao Bay Drive.

After months of hard labor and planning, smooth pavement and curbs to the road were built along with drainage inlets.

The design was to allow the runoff to flow into the drainage inlets leading to the drainage pipes underneath the road, then into built-in stone mortar channels and natural stream channels, and into the concrete sediment chamber of a 3 part mini dam.

“This dam will enable the soil particles and debris to sink down to the bottom while the rest of the water fills out into the next two sediments,” says Tim Lang the Laolao bay project manager.

“At the very end a gavien sediment chamber would be the last filtration and from there the water will flow into the bay,” Lang added.

Out of 800 applicants this project was one of the lucky 50 that got chosen for the funding awarded to the CNMI Division of Environmental Quality through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grant administered by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
