Chinese community plans to hold cultural night annually

The crowd that gathered at  Paseo de Marianas was entertained by various performances starting off with the traditional lion dance to start the cultural celebration, which included the breathtaking “Gông Fu Chá” or tea ceremony,  the Chinese “Biàn Liǎn” or the “face changers” from Beijing, and other colorful dance numbers.

Local performances from the Saipan Chinese School and Do Re Mi School of Music also provided additional entertainment.

The first Chinese Culture Night gave the guests a chance to step into the colorful world of China’s vibrant sights, sounds and tastes offeredby various booths that were set up around the main stage. The booths featured Chinese calligraphy, artwork, cultural pieces such as tea pots, intricate bone art, a display of Chinese traditional costumes, games and entertainment.

Guests also flocked to the food booths that sold Chinese rice dumpling, moon cakes, and other Chinese delicacies.

Saipan Chinese Association president Jerry Tan said they will look into inviting more performers from China to entertain and make the event one of the most anticipated ones throughout the year.

The Chinese Culture Night was made possible by the joint effort of the Chinese Association of Saipan, the Tan Siu Lin Foundation, the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, the Division of Parks and Recreation, and the PDM Promoters.
