Island Trybe brothers David and Matthew Quitugua who have been based in Tacoma, Washington for the past 10 years, will perform at Power98’s Facebook Birthday Party-Friends with Benefits Show on Sept. 30 at the Globe Ultra Lounge in Tumon, Guam.
Rob Travella, founder/designer for Salbahe’ Co. on Saipan, said Island Trybe will then proceed to Saipan and perform live at the Pacific Islands Club pool bar from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Oct. 8.
The band’s performance here — “United Nesia Fest: Coming Home Tour” — will be hosted by LJ Castro.
Also performing with Island Trybe are Tacoma’s Jay Sway and Saipan’s own Fatal Hitz RoccJuan, an original member of Island Trybe, Latte Vibes, 6se7nh0, Tom Basa Jr., Tacoma’s DJ Boboy and Saipan’s DJ Big Ken Camacho.
Founded in 1996, Island Trybe has been “making a lot of noise” in the states, appearing in several shows with some of the big headliners in the music industry like E-40, Twista, Marques Houston, Too $hort, Warren G, Devin The Dude, Baby Bash, GS Boyz, Mr. Fab, Spice-1, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony’s Bizzy Bone, and Cypress Hill’s B-Real.
They have also performed with famous reggae artists such as Fiji, Tribal Theory, Pau Hana and One Drop.
Trybe Fam has brought recognition to the Marianas in the states for having released four albums and 49 performances alone in 2009 — 47 throughout Washington state, one in Vegas and one in Temecula, California.
Island Trybe’s official music video, the hit single “Blow Ya Mynd,” released in February this year has already received over 28,000 views on YouTube.
