Senate won’t wait for healthcare board nominees’ drug tests

Senate President Paul A. Manglona, Ind.-Rota, told reporters yesterday that he will urge his colleagues to move ahead with the confirmation of Gov. Benigno R. Fitial’s appointees while waiting for the drug test results.

The nominees are Joaquin S. Torres, Anthony H. Aguon, Roy T. Rios and Pedro Q. Dela Cruz.

They have already undergone drug tests and submitted the receipts along with their resumes and other credentials to the Senate Committee on Executive Appointments and Government Investigation.

Because the specimens for drug tests will be sent to Honolulu, Hawaii, Variety learned that it may take 10 to 15 days to get the results.

Manglona  said he is confident the nominees will have no problem with their drug tests.

The administration has assured the Senate that the governor will remove any appointee how fails the drug test.

“I respect the committee so I will ask the members if the drug test requirement can be waived at least temporarily while waiting for the results,” Manglona said.
