Manglona wants NMI to join education commission

WICHE is a non-profit organization created to facilitate resource sharing among the higher education systems of New Mexico, Montana, Arizona, Utah, Oregon, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, Alaska, Washington, California, Nevada, Hawaii, North Dakota, and South Dakota.

In an interview, Manglona said students who are not residents of a state pay double or triple the tuition fee paid by state residents. That’s why some parents allow their children to live in the states for one year before enrolling in a college there in order to become eligible for resident rate tuition, he added.

Joining WICHE, he said, will greatly benefit the CNMI. Undergraduate students from the islands will pay a lower tuition fee at the more than 145 institutions participating in the commission.

Manglona’s Senate Resolution 17-71 also urges the CNMI government and Northern Marianas College to work with WICHE on membership.
