Fiji prone to national security breaches

Fotofili says Fiji is surrounded by the sea and foreigners can come in at any time through yachts and ships.

Ten years after the September 11 attacks, technology has developed making contact from one place in the world to another more convenient, said Fotofili.

For this reason, an integrated approach is needed to ensure Fiji’s safety.

“The increasing threats world-wide due to the multi-facet complex crimes such as money laundering, counterfeiting, transnational crimes, human and drug trafficking and importation of foreign materials into our shores. These are issues that concern our environment. This has compelled government to come up with strategies and to formulate policies so we can address such issues at our ports of entry,” said Fotofili.
