The 8-mile walk to the Suicide Cliff had 14 cadets in company. The group got together at Kam Pacific before 4 o’clock in the morning.
They began their march at 4 o’clock. It took them two and a half hours to march uphill and an hour to march downhill through the shortcut. They finished at around 7:30 a.m.
They practiced insurgency tactics while they were on the trail.
The Reserved Officers Training Corps program of NMC is for 2 years and the cadet is then sent to the University of Guam to finish two more years.
They train in the morning on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
When asked about how they balanced their personal lives, school, and the ROTC program, Cadet Ascano responded, “It’s hard but it’s worth it in the end.” Cadet Diaz said the hardships they go through together as a group develops “good camaraderie.”
