Taxi driver wins $2.3M at Dynasty

The hotel management requested this reporter not to disclose the winner’s name, whom it described as “a very good player who has very good skills.”

The casino player had a winning streak over the last few weeks.

Variety learned that the taxi driver  won the $5,000 jackpot at a Saipan poker arcade last month.

He then went to Tinian Dynasty and played baccarat.

The player’s winning streak began during the first week of this month, winning “17 hands in a row” until he “broke the house.”

It is the second time a casino player won millions of dollars at Tinian Dynasty since it opened in 1998.

The first one happened seven years ago when a tourist  won $3 million also in baccarat.

“Casino is a form of recreation. The message we want to convey is that we’re not promoting gambling. Just have some fun. If you’re lucky you will win,” the Dynasty management said.

Sen. Henry H. San Nicolas, Covenant-Tinian, said this very fortunate event shows that positive things can happen to Tinian’s casino industry.

“I congratulate the guy. I don’t know who he is but I really congratulate him. He is really a lucky guy,” he said adding that Tinian Dynasty is moving forward.

More good news

Another “positive” development took place at Tinian Dynasty yesterday.

Yang Rongsen, the chairman of Guangdong Province’s Tourism Administration, met with Tinian Dynasty chairman Michael Kwan, general manager Tom Liu and seven CNMI lawmakers — Senate President Paul A. Manglona, Ind.-Rota; Senate Vice President Jude U. Hofschneider, R-Tinian; Sens. Jovita M. Taimanao, Ind.-Rota; Juan M. Ayuyu, Ind.-Rota; Frank Q. Cruz, R-Tinian; Henry H. San Nicolas, Covenant-Tinian; and Ralph DLG. Torres, R-Saipan.

Liu said Yang was here on a “promotional and inspection trip.”

Yang, whose job is to promote in-bound and out-bound travels in Guandong, discussed with the senators his agency’s plan to promote the CNMI in China particularly in his province.

Yang, according to Liu, had just attended a U.S.-China tourism conference in Hawaii and decided to fly all the way here to meet with CNMI officials.

Aside from being a good friend of Kwan, the Guangdong official has been promoting CNMI tourism for almost 10 years now because “he simply cares” for the commonwealth.

“His visit means a lot to us. It just shows that the CNMI as a premier tourist destination is gaining the interest of so many travelers in China,” Liu said.

Manglona said they were very glad to meet with Yang who is deeply involved in the tourism industry in Guangdong which has 100 million people.

“The more we reach to tourism in China, the better for us,” Manglona said.
