CUC reclassifies Rota job vacancy announcements

CUC earlier admitted that it was  having a hard time getting applicants for the post on Rota due to the island’s economic situation and distance.

CUC Deputy Executive Director Alan W. Fletcher said they are trying to make the position more attractive.

The position remains unfilled since the job vacancy announcement, or JVA, was made on Sept. 7, 2011.

“CUC is again advertising the Rota position and is hopeful we will attract qualified applicants,” Fletcher said.

While Rota suffers from a struggling economy, he added, it is also important to remember that it is a beautiful island with a vibrant community.

“CUC is happy to offer this opportunity and looks forward to moving quickly on the recruitment,” he told Variety.

The water services manager’s position is required by the federal stipulated orders.

The manager will supervise staff, prioritize and assign work, conduct performance evaluations, ensure training of staff, and make hiring, termination and disciplinary recommendations

The minimum requirements include a high school diploma or GED or ABE, plus proven experience as a direct responsible charge, at least a current water distribution level 2 certification and current water treatment level 3 certification.

The position has an annual salary of $45,000 to $65,000. Relocation costs to and from Rota will be negotiated if the hired applicant if not from the island.

CUC said the position is for U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents or those eligible to work in the U.S., specifically the CNMI, without needing sponsorship by CUC for a U.S. work visa.
