Federal court asked to reschedule sentencing in driver’s license case

The continuance will allow for the probation officer to complete the presentence investigation reports, stated the written request filed on Monday.

The requested dates are for the following defendants:

• Tahira Dolores Miah is due for sentencing today; requested to be rescheduled for Nov. 4, 2011

• former Department of Public Safety’s Bureau of Motor Vehicles examiner William A. Hocog, from Sept. 26, 2011 to Nov. 4, 2011

• Hui Qiang Yan, also known as Hui Chang, Sept. 30, 2011 to Nov. 21, 2011

• Hongmei Sun, Oct. 6, 2011 to Nov. 21, 2011

The fifth defendant, Mohammad Jahangir Miah, will be sentenced on Nov. 15, 2011.

Mr. Miah admitted the charge of conspiring to unlawfully produce and transfer CNMI driver’s license last August.

Last June, Mrs. Miah admitted the charge of unlawful possession of an identification document, while Hocog, Sun and Yan pleaded guilty to one count of conspiring to unlawfully produce and transfer CNMI driver’s licenses.

The investigation of the defendants were conducted by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement of the United States Department of Homeland Security “with significant assistance from the CNMI Department of Public Safety.”
