Solar project turned over to Yap

Gov. Sebastian Anefal and Lt. Gov. Tony Tareg were joined by representatives of the council of chiefs as well as members of the 8th Legislature and other government officials, who were there to witness the signing of agreement between Yap and the representative of the Office of Statistics, Budget & Economic Management, Overseas Assistant & Compact Management,  Fabian Nimea.

Nimea expressed his congratulations on behalf of the national government for the successful completion of this project and reaffirmed the national government’s commitment to assist the states in their continued development.

The project, which has been in development since 2000, was made possible by funding from the European Union. Wiepke Van Der Goot, EU ambassador to the FSM, was on hand to witness the ceremony.

He and his staff  also inspected the solar plants built on Fadarai and Asor, Ulithi.

“Alternative energy should be a priority for us in the coming years,” said Anefal.

He said the development of more solar systems in Yap’s outer islands are already underway with the EDF10 plan already in the works — it aims to build solar systems on Mogmog and Falalop, Ulithi, Fais, and Falalop, Woleai.
