FSM to climate-proof roads

Last month, FSM and other Micronesian nations endorsed the Pacific Adaptation to Climate Change Project.

Its project officer, Peni Leavu, said the program encourages climate change projects in three main areas.

These are food security and production, water resources management and coastal management.

He said the Federated States of Micronesia has been keen to implement the project.

“They are carrying out changes in the design of roads, the elevation of road levels, redesign culverts,” he added.

“This is in line of government plans as well as in line with the Asian Development Bank studies on climate-proofing infrastructure.”
