NMC President Sharon Hart, who was one of the speakers at the Saipan Chamber of Commerce meeting yesterday, said they could provide short-term training course certificates in different industries to make sure that the business needs of the community are being met.
Hart said NMC will be entering into partnerships with key providers in the Pacific and will make these short-term training courses available online.
She said the goal is to make the students get their education here and not elsewhere.
“We will try to get these online courses up and running as quickly as we can,” Hart said.
She said these could include short-term courses in healthcare, entry level skills, additional courses in accounting for continuing education and others.
Hart said NMC will also be exploring programs in which students can get hands-on experience in various fields and industries.
NMC also aims to help displaced workers, or those who have been laid off from their jobs.
“When you know of someone who has been laid off from their job, let us know at NMC because we can help give them training in various skills so they can reenter the workforce through another occupation,” Hart said.
Hart said NMC will work with other stakeholders like the Legislature, the governor’s office and the business community.
“These stakeholders should be like the legs of a stool that should work together and move with one goal,” she said.
