From June 2010 to June 2011, the Executive Branch reduced its size from 6,880 to 6,560 employees. That’s a decrease of 320 employees, according to the governor’s office.
The significant decrease over the last year follows three subsequent quarters where executive branch employment exceeded 7,000 GovGuam workers.
In fact, there was a decrease of 600 jobs for the government of Guam from the last quarter, but that includes members of the Guam Department of Education who are not paid during the school summer months.
The comparison of numbers from June 2010 to June 2011 provides a more accurate picture of the government’s reduction, according to the report.
It should also be noted there was a decrease in employment in the autonomous agencies over the last quarter, from 4,730 in March 2011 to 4,530 in June. Together with the executive branch, that’s a total decrease of 800 employees over the past quarter, the report states.
