The contest is limited to eight teams and a few more slots are still open. This will be on a first come, first-served basis.
At stake are $300, $200 and $100 plus sponsor prizes for the first, second and third placers, and sponsor gift bags and special edition Queen of the Grill t-shirt for all the participants.
Marianas Variety president Laila Y. Boyer said the 2011 Queen of the Grill is organized to offer a creative event for the community to enjoy.
The contest entries will be judged in one single round only and all meat entries must be cooked on the official Queen of the Grill BBQ contest grounds.
Contestants will be provided with Certified Angus Beef products on the official setup time and the contestants are free to season or prepare the meat the way he or she wants to. Contestants can be as creative as they want to their recipes and in adding side dishes.
The entries will be judged according to appearance, taste and tenderness.
Sponsors are Triple J Five Star Wholesale Foods, the islands’ favorite soy sauce, Kikoman, the man‘nge radio station, KKMP 92.1 FM and the Marianas Variety.
Other sponsors that will also offer prizes are the Hyatt Regency Saipan, Triple J Super Fresh Market, Western Sales & Trading, the exclusive distributor of Asahi Beer, and Rota Mineral Water.
