Detective Alexander Sakisat said during the probable cause hearing presided over by Superior Court Judge David A. Wiseman yesterday afternoon that Amirez was arrested for taking valuables owned by Scott Thompson.
Wiseman imposed a $1,000 cash bail, and ruled Amirez’s arrest as justified.
Amirez was remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections after the hearing.
Assistant Attorney General Russel Lorfing represented the government, while Chief Public Defender Adam Hardwicke was appointed as Amirez’s counsel.
Sakisat said officers were dispatched to Garapan on Nov. 16, at about 10:26 p.m. regarding a theft in progress.
Police recovered the victim’s valuables from Amirez.
Sakisat told reporters after the hearing that Amirez opened the door of Thompson’s car that was parked outside Jonny’s Bar, and took valuables.
Initially, a mobile phone was reported missing, but further investigation indicated that Thompson lost other valuables.
Amirez escaped, but was found later by police.
In the same court hearing, Wiseman said Amirez had a standing bench warrant for a registration violation last February.
Amirez admitted the charge, and the court ordered him to pay $35.
