Sonia Siwa of PDM Promoters said they have 15 Christmas trees to be decorated by 15 participating schools, but only 10 schools had confirmed their participation as of yesterday.
“We have received more inquiries and have distributed registration forms but only 10 have been turned in so far,” Siwa told the Variety. Participants include Koblerville Elementary School, Green Meadow School, William S. Reyes Elementary School, Dandan Elementary School, Saipan Seventh Day Adventist School, Garapan Elementary School, San Antonio Elementary School and Kagman Elementary School.
Siwa said as in the past five years, the participating schools will decorate a 9-foot tall Christmas tree with ornaments fashioned out of recycled materials such as soda cans, Styrofoam, milk cartons among other things.
The Christmas trees will be decorated on Nov. 30 and will be judged on Dec. 1 but the winners will be announced on Dec. 15 at the Garapan street market. The giant Christmas tree at the Paseo de Marianas will also be lighted on the same night, Siwa said.
The Christmas trees will be judged based on creativity, design, durability, attractiveness, relevance to the theme, and the use of recycled materials.

Last year’s $5,000 grand prize winner was Golden Harvest International School. Last year’s second place winner was Oleai Elementary School, and third place went to Joshua Generation International Academy.
