The council, which is composed of the governors of the CNMI, Guam, American Samoa and Hawaii, holds annual meeting to discuss pressing issues involving Pacific island communities.
Fitial attended last year’s meeting that coincided with the National Governors Association gathering in Washington D.C.
Demapan said aside from a commitment on Saipan, the governor also has to “take care of business here.”
But Fitial, he added, has to leave for Fairbanks, Alaska on Aug. 14 because he was invited to be one of the guest speakers in a renewable energy summit.
Fitial left the CNMI over three weeks ago to undergo coronary angiogram in Nagoya, Japan. He then proceeded to San Francisco, California to attend a Region 9 Federal Regional Council meeting before heading to Washington, D.C. to testify in a U.S. congressional hearing.
The governor also went to Utah to attend the National Governors Association annual meeting and to Pohnpei in the Federated States of Micronesia for the Micronesia Chief Executives Summit.
