A press conference was held at the Government House, introducing some of the candidates vying to be Miss Guam World 2011.
A few words of encouragement were shared by the governor, who expressed his admiration for the contestants as they went on to demonstrate the true meaning of “Beauty with a Purpose,” the pageant’s motto.
“The most important objective for me is that you go out there and you put yourself out there because…there’s something good coming out of it,” said Calvo. “When I listen to all your causes…these are all very, very good projects to build our island and I really have to congratulate you.”
The Miss Guam World 2011 pageant is set for Aug. 31 at the University of Guam Field House. The crowned beauty queen will represent Guam in November at the Miss World Pageant in London, England.
