Commonwealth Council for Arts and Culture Executive Director Angel S. Hocog yesterday said 11 artists have already submitted their artwork for exhibit or for sale. This includes paintings, photographs, handicrafts, beadwork, carving and more.
“We are inviting all our local artists to come to our office and bring your artworks now,” Hocog said.
If artists don’t have time to come over to their office, Arts Council staffers can come and pick up the artwork.
“Just give us a call and instruct us where to find you and we will pick up your materials and artwork. We would be happy to do it for our local artists,” Hocog said.
Arts Council staffers are now busy preparing the venue for the official opening at 9 a.m. on Sept. 1 of the month-long exhibit at the Hyatt.
The exhibit is free for local artists and free for the community.
“We are also inviting our community members to come to this once-a-year exhibit, support our local products and local talents,” Hocog said.
All proceeds from the artwork sold during the exhibit will go back to the artists.
The Commonwealth Council for Arts and Culture has over 160 registered local artists. Over 90 of the registered artists are on Saipan, while the rest are from Tinian and Rota. Artists who would like to be registered with the council can drop in at its office any time with a copy of their bio data and samples of artwork.
The exhibit will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday free of charge. Bring your artwork to the Arts Council office on Capitol Hill from 8:30am to 4:30 p.m. or call 322-9982 or 83 for pickup arrangements or more information.
