Senate commends KSPN’s Liz Wahl

After handing a copy of Senate Commemorative Resolution 17-9 to Wahl in the Senate chamber, Senate President Paul A. Manglona said the Senate believes that the media is an instrument of change.

On behalf of the people of the CNMI, Manglona, Ind.-Rota, thanked Wahl for her professionalism and good coverage of the Legislature.  He also wished her well in her new endeavors.

After a two years on Saipan, Wahl returned to the states last Saturday.

Sen. Jovita M. Taimanao, Ind.-Rota. said they didn’t want to say goodbye to Wahl. So they would just thank her for the services she rendered to the people of the CNMI.

Senate Vice President Jude U. Hofschneider, R-Tinian, said he believes that “the media is the fourth branch of the government.”

Reporters  inform the people about what’s happening in their government, he added.

Wahl, he noted, “made big waves” in the Senate and also made great friends.

“We appreciate her time here and we wish her the best and please come back to the CNMI,” he told Wahl.

Wahl said she was honored and humbled to receive the resolution.

It was great to be part of the media here, she said adding that she had an amazing time here on Saipan.

“I’m going to miss it here and thank you guys for being transparent, open and very welcoming,” Wahl told the senators.

Wahl graduated cum laude  at Fairfield University in Connecticut where she earned her degree in journalism.

A member of the International English Honor Society and the National Collegiate Foreign Language Honor Society, Wahl began her career as a news intern at NBC 30 in West Harford, Connecticut in 2006. She also worked for FOX News in 2007 as an intern for the producers of “Hannity & Holmes.”

Wahl arrived on Saipan in Dec. 2009 and worked with KSPN 2 News “where she gained the trust, respect and credibility” of the community.

The resolution states that the people of the CNMI will continuously recognize and appreciate Wahl’s tenure as a professional and diligent reporter and anchor.
