CUC said the 11-hour water outage will allow American International Corp., a contractor, to perform main service connections.
This undertaking is part of CUC’s well isolation project.
The water outage will affect residents on Puerto Rico Drive, Manilao Drive, Sadog Tasi Drive, Pilla Drive and Rasaki Way, as well as the CUC Water Division Office in Puerto Rico, the CUC Laboratory and the Sadog Tasi Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The CUC well isolation project will eliminate direct feed wells in those affected areas and reroute the water collected to the Puerto Rico tank, CUC said.
This will ensure a more efficient and consistent water service to those residing within the serviced areas, CUC said.
“Because of the scale of the work to be performed, CUC recommends that travelers on Sadog Tasi Drive take alternate routes or to exercise caution when driving through the affected areas,” CUC said.
CUC “apologizes for any inconvenience resulting from those projects and the water service interruption.”
Last Friday, CUC reported that its water and wastewater division trouble shooters repaired a reported waterline lead on lower Navy Hill.
The seven-man crew led by water operations supervisor Tim Scheidt and trades technician Glenn Villagomez located the leak on the main waterline servicing the residents of lower Navy Hill across from the Tinian and Rota Guest Houses.
CUC said it used a backhoe to unearth 5 feet of dirt to expose the 8 inch by 20 feet long pipe.
CUC found that the pipe showed an 18 feet long crack on its side.
The crack, according to Villagomez, was the result of the pressure of the water traveling through the pipes.
“When the water travels through the pipe it causes vibrations. The vibration causes the pipe to rub against the rocks. This constant rubbing, especially if there are small loose rocks underneath the pipe, would usually cause the cracks. In this case, there was a huge rock next to the pipe,” he said.
CUC said its crews worked from Friday to Saturday to expose, remove, and replace the damage main water pipe.
The project was completed late Saturday night and water was restored to the area on Sunday morning after verification on the pressure reducing valve was done, CUC added.
CUC said it extends its appreciation to the Navy Hill residents for their patience and understanding.
CUC also continues to urge the general public to report any water, power and sewer related problems as soon as possible so repairs can be performed and service restored.
