Man on probation re-arrested for punching, kicking partner many times

Joseph Naputi Borja, 27, was arrested on Tinian on charges of assault and battery, disturbing the peace, and contempt of court.

Superior Court Judge Perry B. Inos increased to $10,000 from $4,000 the bail imposed on Borja of Marpo Heights.

Police Officer Barbara K. Arend said the victim called 911 on Oct. 30, 2011, at about 10 a.m.

Responding officers saw the victim and Borja inside their bedroom, while six children were crying and yelling in the kitchen.

Borja told police his partner, who was covering her left eye with a piece of cloth, fell and hit her forehead on a 2×4 piece of wood.

But one of the children told police she saw Borja punch and kick the victim many times.

The victim was brought to Tinian Health Center, where she was treated for a laceration above her left eye. She also complained of pain in her ribcage and back.

The witness said she was in the living room when she saw Borja enter the bedroom. Afterward, the witness heard Borja yelling.

The witness rushed to the bedroom and saw Borja punching the victim to the face several times. The witness said she pleaded  with Borja to stop, but the defendant continued punching his partner.

When the victim lay face down on the bed, Borja kicked her back and ribcage, the witness told police.

Last June, Judge David A. Wiseman sentenced Borja to one year imprisonment, all suspended, and credited 20 days he served at the Department of Corrections facility. That case was assault and battery.
