OPA, NMI Bar snub Senate panel

The committee chairman, Sen. Frank Q. Cruz, has written OPA twice but said he has yet to receive a response regarding the investigation into Buckingham’s involvement in the  meet and greet gathering for then-candidate, now Judge Joseph N. Camacho and the administration’s sole-source contract for American Reinvestment and Recovery Act projects.

The NMI Bar Association, he added, only confirmed receipt of his letter regarding the same request three months ago.

Senate President Paul A. Manglona, Ind.-Rota, gave the committee 30 days to submit a report, but Cruz said OPA and the NMI Bar, apparently, are still conducting an investigation.

Cruz, R-Tinian, noted that the Senate also adopted Senate Resolution 17-62 urging the NMI Bar’s disciplinary committee to investigate Buckingham for ethical violations regarding his approval of the $392,406 ARRA contract to former Commerce Secretary Michael Ada’s Integrated Professional Solutions, and S.R. 17-63 urging OPA to supplement the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Inspector General report on the controversy.

Cruz said he also asked the NMI Bar to look into the ARRA contract.

The senator said his committee has been working “diligently” on these controversies.
