The former lt. governor says he is “hanging his political hat” so he can “refocus on his family.”
Rep. Janet U. Maratita, who ran on the Republican slate in Nov. 2009, will replace Benavente. Maratita, who abandoned the GOP and supported the governor in the runoff, currently works with the Department of Public Health. In the Nov. 2009 elections, she finished seventh in Precinct 1 which has six House seats.
