MHS cooperative education students entertain manamko’

Recently, cooperative education students of Marianas High School visited the center.

Tyce Mister, teacher/coordinator of the MHS education and training program, said the students performed song and dances for and with the manamko’.

“Part of the presentation related to the book ‘7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens’ by Sean Covey,’” he said.

During the program, students introduced themselves and discussed their career goals.

The students also played keyboard and sang “Wonderful Tonight” by Eric Clapton.

The manamko’ later joined the students in dancing the cha-cha, the  Macarena and other popular dance steps.

To show respect, the students greeted each senior citizens with “an amen” before they started their presentation.

Aging Center program coordinator Walter Manglona said: “The students put a sparkle in the manamko’s day.”

According to student Ray Villagomez, “We had a paradigm shift.”

He said they were not prepared for the wonderful and powerful feeling that came from interacting with their elders.

As his fellow student Kimberly Fitial would put it, “My heart is smiling.”

The students were thankful to the manamko’ for a heartwarming and truly honorable experience, Mister said.

“It was an extremely positive experience,” he added.

He is hoping the manamko’ would welcome them back.

Senior Citizens Advisory Council president Teresita Sorroza said she appreciated the presentation of the students.

“They’ve done a very good job. The manamko’ were entertained,” she said.
