Water, power outages in some villages

Commonwealth Utilities Corp. water and wastewater division manager Mariano Iglecias said they will be performing water system construction in these areas from June 23 to 27.

The project will involve reconnecting pipelines and diverting water from its direct feed wells  in Koblerville to the Isley Tank site, he said.

“CUC’s well isolation project is designed to provide improved services to the affected areas by eliminating direct feed wells —  those wells pumped directly into the distribution system,” he said.

Iglecias said while operation crews will try to eliminate all water outages during the project switchover, temporary outages are possible.

“CUC apologizes for any inconvenience as it works to improve water service to its customers,” he said.

On June 25, there will be a three-hour power interruption from 5 a.m. to 8:30 am in Kagman and Papago areas.

CUC power and transmission division manager Gary Camacho said the purpose of the power interruption is to allow the Kimco Inc. linemen to isolate seven power poles from the electrical grid that require to be relocated for the Cross Island Isa Road Expansion Project.

The power poles are located in the Feeder 4 second partial circuit just south of the Kagman village entrance to Papago, he said.

Once the modification is completed, the areas from Botanical Garden to Papago will be transferred to the Kiya 1 circuit until the relocations are completed next week, he said.

Camacho said the CUC linemen will also be installing a new air break switch, or ABS, on Kagman Road across from the Kagman Mobil Gas Station.

“The ABS will provide the linemen the ability to isolate problematic areas for repair and maintenance and minimize inconvenience to customers residing outside the general vicinity of the Kagman village,” he said.

He said separate crews will be replacing the burnt and rotten power pole by Chacha Jr. High School and will clear vegetation on the primary lines in the affected outage areas.

The areas that will be affected are Feeder 4: the intersection of Kagman Mobil Gas Station and Kagman Homesteads from 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. , and  Pina Drive Isa Drive to the Botanical Garden, 5:30 a.m. to 6:30 a.m.

Because of the scale of the work that will be performed, travelers are asked to take alternate routes or to exercise caution when driving through the affected areas, he said.

“CUC apologizes, in advance, for any inconvenience resulting from these projects and the power interruption,” Camacho said.

Any problems can be reported to the CUC Call Center at 235-0282/ 235-2282.
