Dandan Tottots rock the school year

Among their many victories this year, the Tottots were proud to recognize their first place winner of Guam’s Science Fair, Franco Ray T. Masga.

With his project, “Strength of a Magnet,” Masga dominated the islandwide competition on Saipan. He then received first place in the Physics category at the system wide fair in Guam where over 600 students competed.

Other feats included receiving the most awards for the elementary division at the last Chamorro Carolinian Language Heritage Studies (CCLHS) competition.

“This was the first annual CCHLS competition for kindergarten to twelfth grade. It even included students from Tinian and Rota,” one instructor for CCHLS at the school, Caroline Agulto explains. “Participating is part of our game plan to bring back the language and heritage and really get the kids interested in learning the language. The kids enjoyed the event and after it all they have more pride in their culture.”

In the Chamorro Academic Challenge Bowl, Dandan elementary’s Kaleolani Kani placed first in Storytelling while Joshua Mendiola received third place in Oratorical contest.

The Tottots’ conquests of the Carolinian Academic Challenge Bowl include (for sixth grade) Joshua Saures coming in third for  Question and Answer, Norlynn Haid receiving second place in Spelling, (for third to fifth grade) Kaldora Inos coming in first for Question and Answer, Lance Rebuenog placing second for Spelling, and Kaldora Inos receiving third place in Storytelling.
