NMI Big leaguers fall to Philippines

Team CNMI slipped on an early three runs from their opponents in the first inning.

“The tournament was well. The guys did their very best,” Manager Joe Flores told Variety in a phone interview.

“The defense and pitching was there, but the only thing we didn’t produce was the batting.”

Flores said players from team Philippines connected their bats, resulting in their victory.

“The only thing we need to improve is batting. We’ll need to improve that next year too,” he added.

Both teams had earlier dominated Guam and posted three wins and one loss prior to their finals game.

Team CNMI crushed Guam, 6-1 in their first game and defeated the Philippines, 6-2 last week Monday. They lost to the Philippines, 2-3 on Wednesday and defeated Guam again via forfeit.

The All-Stars returned to island yesterday morning.

Teams Philippines also ruled the Senior League’s finals after crushing Indonesia, 10-0.

The Big League World Series will take place in Easley, South Carolina from July 27 to August 3.

The NMI’s bets are now pinned on the Little League All-Stars, who will compete in Guam’s ASPAC regionals.
