51% drop in brand new car sales

Based on the latest reports from the Commonwealth Auto Dealers Association, the CNMI’s three dealers sold only 23 brand new cars last month. The dealers sold 47 during the same period last year.

Last month’s brand new vehicle sales included 12 sedans, 3 trucks and 8 sport utility vehicles.

Toyota remains as the consumer’s brand of choice with 10 units sold followed by Hyundai with 7, Mazda with 3, Nissan with 2 units and Ford with 1.

The three dealers sold a total of 198 brand new vehicles from January to May this year, posting a 28.26 percent decrease compared to the sales for the same period last year. This year’s sales included 79 sedans, 48 trucks, 11 vans, 55 sport utility vehicles and 5 others.

For the five-month period, Microl Corp. topped the sales for brand new cars, selling 82 units, representing a 41.41 percent market share, followed by Joeten Motors with 66 brand new cars sold and claiming a 33.33 percent market share. Triple J Motors sold a total of 50 brand new cars, representing a 25.25 percent share of the market.

For the first time this year, sales for used cars surpassed sales for brand new cars last month. The three dealers sold 24 used cars, 10 units of which were sold by Microl Corp., 9 by Triple J Motors, and 5 by Joeten Motors.

Microl Corp. distributes Toyota and Chevrolet. Joeten Motors sells Nissan, Ford, Honda, Kia and other car brands, while Triple “J” is the local dealer of Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Isuzu, Suzuki, Mazda and others.
