While over 100 victim volunteers were tasked to play out simulated injuries, some actual complications occurred. Airport marketing administrator and spokeswoman Rolenda Faasuamalie reported heat exhaustion, sunstroke and fainting as some of the reported incidents.
What she failed to mention, however, was that a student volunteer sustained much more serious injuries reportedly inflicted by airport police.
Jimmy Lomibao, 21, suffered from a dislocated shoulder and a broken nose which required stitches. He was one of 27 nursing students fromtGuam Community College, volunteering for the airport’s disaster-drill exercise.
GCC spokeswoman Jayne Flores said: “We hope that the airport will fully investigate the incident, because what happened to the student was unacceptable. The student was supposed to be assisted, not harmed.”
