Both teams reached a 17-17 deadlock in the first quarter, but Hanwa had no problems sticking it out and winning, 74-55 at the Gualo Rai Basketball Court.
They will take the third seed below pennant champion Blue Haus and Pacific Trading company in the league’s A-bracket. The fourth seed has yet to be determined between the VFW-Joe’s Bar Hoopaholics and Island Apparel Hotshots.
Vinas settled for a 12-point first half and scored 12 more in the third quarter to bury Triple J. Wowie Abuel piled 13, Banjo Basila earned 10, and Julius Tabamo and James Wabinga scored eight each.
Vinas hammered his second of two three-pointers in the second half and had ample time to carry Hanwa a little further.
A pack of traveling violations slowed Triple J while Chris Jarabe struggled for possession against Oyo Mendoza.
Jarabe charged for a reverse layup but found himself cornered between Basila and Vinas.
Hanwa’s huge 68-43 lead had Triple J giving up in the closing four minutes. Ron Siroy and team coach Teddy Bugay’s three-point attempts did little to erase their 20-point deficit. Jarabe squeezed in 13 points, Bugay scored 12, and Jerwin Jose tallied 10.
Meanwhile, team Cargo Express-Seabridge remains undefeated with seven wins in the B-bracket. They will take the top seed followed by the Lions Club Archers (six wins, one loss). The third and fourth seeds are up for grabs this weekend between the B-bracket’s remaining teams.
