MVA wants global recognition for Tinian’s House of Taga

“There are lots of historical sites there that are not open and covered in jungle,” she said.

According to Knight, they are also looking at the possibility of including Tinian’s “House of Taga” on the list of UNESCO world heritage sites.

“This global recognition  would help gain interest in the CNMI,” she said.

The new Tinian sites, she added, will be included in the five-year master plan for CNMI tourism in

She said the master plan will describe the state of tourism in the commonwealth.

“We have a lot of statistics and analysis of a major market for tourism and what will it take to make the industry more healthy,” she added.

The master plan will discuss product development and how the CNMI can take advantage of its assets, Knight said.

KnightConsult LLC senior tourism adviser Manuel L. Knight, who was contracted for MVA’s five-year tourism master plan, said they started their work in February.

The final copy of the master plan is expected to be circulated by the end of the year, he added.

He said they will also work on strategies that may help the CNMI attract more investors.

“We would like to get high quality investors here so  we can compete better,” he added.

Experts from Hawaii will help develop new ideas for the tourism sector, he said.

Last April, he said there was a survey conducted in Russian, Korean, Chinese and Japanese to measure the “visitors’ expectations and behavior.”
