Air Force ‘Weather Airman of the Year’ is from Saipan

“I’ve been in the military for almost three years now as a weather forecaster,” she said. “My job is to forecast and observe the weather.”

Manacop is devoted to her work because she knows that one of the most important information an aviator would like to know before taking off is the weather.

Without a weather forecast it would be difficult for a pilot to determine whether or not it is safe to fly.

Manacop was recently named “Weather Airman of the Year” by the United States Air Force in Europe, an award she never expected to get.

But her father, Larry Manacop, water and wastewater engineer of the Commonwealth Utilities Corp., always believed that his daughter will achieve whatever she sets her sights on.

“I never doubted that,” the father said, adding that his daughter is a consistent achiever.

Syrille graduated salutatorian from Oleai Elementary School in 2003. She was among the top 11 students promoted by Hopwood Jr. High School in 2005, and was among the top six graduates of Marianas High School in 2008.

She was also an ROTC officer.

“I just want to say that I am so proud of her achievements.  I think that this is something that the whole CNMI should be proud of,” Larry Manacop said.

His message to his daughter is to “keep up the good work and keep reaching for the stars.”

Syrille is the eldest daughter of Larry and Agnes Manacop. Her sister Samantha and brother Vynzent are studying at Oleia Elementary School.

Syrille, who will turn 21 on June 20, said it was her family that inspired her to achieve her goals.

She is also grateful for the support of her supervisor, Lt. Andrew Mendoza, who, she said, “pointed me in the right direction.”

She added, “He also trained me a lot on weather forecasting.”

Syrille was stationed at the Sembach Air Force Base in Germany for two years and then at the Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio, Texas.

She has received three other awards from the Air Force: Airman of the Quarter (Squadron level), Airman of the Quarter (603rd Support Group level), and Airman Professional Performer of the Year (Squadron level).

“I think the most important thing in becoming successful is to work hard and to go after your dreams. It’s good to be ambitious but ambition isn’t going to take you anywhere unless you to work hard to get what you want,” she said

Syrille said she was so honored to be recognized as the top weather airman of the U.S. Air Force in Europe.

“It is a really big accomplishment especially for me. It motivates me to continue striving for success and to be the best at whatever it is that I do,” she added.
