H.R. 17-53, introduced by Rep. Teresita A. Santos, Ind.-Rota, recognized the late Lucia Castro Barcinas for her untiring services for the residents of Rota and the people of the CNMI.
Santos described Barcinas, who worked for 46 years in Public Health, as a “well-respected and loved person who has touched the hearts of many and will be remembered for her unselfishness, dedication, and commitment in all her endeavors.”
Speaker Eliceo D. Cabrera, R-Saipan, introduced H.J.R. 17-38, to allow the judiciary to fill five full-time positions.
Chief Justice Miguel S. Demapan said the judiciary must fill the vacancies for two Supreme Court law clerks, one secretary to the presiding judge, one systems administrator and one computer specialist for the judicial administration office.
The House also adopted S.J.R. 17-14, which was introduced by Senate Floor Leader Pete P. Reyes, R-Saipan.
S.J.R. 17-14 seeks to approve the request of the Office of the Public Defender to hire employees deemed as “very critical” to the delivery of essential services.
Chief Public Defender Adam Hardwicke certified on May 11, 2011 that the positions of two assistant public defenders were very critical to the delivery of essential services.
