Sonia Siwa of PDM Promoters said the 43 volunteers included members of the Saipan Awaodori team, some parents and students from Saipan Southern High School.
“This is the biggest amount of trash we collected. We even surpassed last month’s trash volume collection,” Siwa said.
She added that the volunteers covered the Garapan tourist district, picking up various pieces of trash and cutting the bush along the road near Winchell’s and Coral Tree Avenue.
Last month, PDM Promoters volunteers collected 1,200 lbs. of trash in the same area.
Siwa said for the past years, the group has collected from 300 to 500 lbs. of trash around the tourist district and all the way to the fire station near American Memorial Park.
PDM Promoters conduct the monthly cleanup every first or second Saturday of the month.
“We welcome more volunteers to help us in maintaining a clean and green environment especially around the tourist district because we would want visitors to keep coming back,” Siwa said.
Some repeat visitors also join the cleanup whenever they are here.
For years, PDM Promoters Inc. has also used the monthly cleanup activity to teach children first-hand lessons on the importance of keeping the environment clean.
