WASC removes NMC from show cause

The decision to lift the show cause order and place the college on a less severe “probation” status was made during the commission’s meeting held last month.

“This is welcome news for the college,” said NMC interim President Lorraine T. Cabrera. “There’s still a lot of work to be done as our focus now shifts to sustaining the accreditation efforts that our dedicated students, staff, and faculty have put forth. We’ll all be working closely with incoming president Dr. Sharon Hart to continue our accreditation momentum.”

In its meeting, the commission took action to require the college to submit a follow up report by Oct. 15, 2011 that should address issues raised in prior Show Cause orders as well as other concerns indicated in ACCJC President Dr. Barbara Beno’s June 30, 2011 letter.

The accredited status of the institution continues during the probation period.

Beno’s letter, as well as the team visit report, have been posted to the Resource Documents Page on the Northern Marianas College website at www.nmcnet.edu.
